Beloved British actress almost started career in Beatles film [Posted by Dave Haber on Thursday, 02/26/09 4:13 pm] [Comments] [Full Blog] [Tweet This]Wendy Richard, the actress who appeared in some of Britain's best-loved and most long-running television programs, has died today, her agent Kevin Francis said. She was 65 and had been suffering from cancer.
Wendy was a 22-year-old unknown when she was chosen to appear alongside the Beatles in their second movie, Help!, in 1965. Sadly her big moment, a tender scene with Paul McCartney, was cut from the movie. The only remaining record of this deleted scene are still photographs, discovered by researchers restoring the film for its release on DVD in 2007.

In an interview in 2007, she spoke of her disappointment at being edited out of the movie. She said, "I was devastated. But I've met Paul since and it was lovely that he remembered me."
Upon learning the news, Paul McCartney said, "She was a lovely lady and a real babe, a really nice girl. We had a lot of fun working with her. She went on to do great things. Over the years we'd bump into each other and I would give her a hug."
Ms. Richard's career spanned five decades of British television and film including starring as Miss Brahms in BBC comedy Are You Being Served?
