New Paul McCartney album anticipated in 2017
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Friday, 01/13/17 4:13 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

In an article entitled "63 Most Anticipated Albums of 2017", Rolling Stone writes:

After announcing his return to Capitol Records, for whom the Beatles famously recorded, 74-year-old Paul McCartney wrapped up his 2016 tour and began work on his first album since 2013's New, going into the studio with producer Greg Kurstin, known for his work with Adele.

McCartney has also recorded tracks, including at least one with Lady Gaga, for an unnamed animation project.

"I'll put out my next album, but I won't think I'm gonna sell a lot," he told Rolling Stone last year. "I'm putting it out because I have songs that I like. And I will do my best job. The scene has changed, but it doesn't disturb me, because I had the best of it."

Beatlefan magazine uncovers story behind forgotten Beatles album
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Wednesday, 12/28/16 4:22 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

The latest issue of Beatlefan magazine looks at the story behind one of the least-known Beatles albums, "A Collection of Beatles Oldies."

Bruce Spizer and Ken Orth tell how the hits collection issued outside the U.S., and its colorful cover design, came to be. Plus, Brad Hundt looks at why another collection that was issued in the U.S., "20 Greatest Hits," didn't have the impact that the later "1" collection would enjoy.

Also in the new issue, Kit O'Toole offers an in-depth survey of George Harrison's career in the 1980s, and how he managed to reinvent himself professionally and stage a major comeback, culminating with "Cloud Nine" and the Traveling Wilburys, and Wally Podrazik offers an appreciation of the recent "Eight Days a Week" film, while Tom Frangione reviews its home video release.

In addition, Al Sussman weighs in on the fan debate over Paul McCartney's voice, and Rip Rense writes an open letter to Ringo Starr suggesting he reunite with a past creative partner (and not the one you're thinking of). Plus, all the latest news, including tour reports, and reviews of new video, books and recordings.

A sample issue costs $8 in the U.S. or $12 abroad. U.S. funds only. If you want the latest issue, be sure to specify #223. A year's subscription in the U.S. costs $34 for six issues. Proceeds from the one-time only concert will go to benefit Pancreatic Cancer research.

In the hour-hour the show, journalist Ivor Davis, author of the award-winning book, "The Beatles and Me on Tour," who was the only daily newspaper writer to travel from start to finish on the Beatles first historic l964 tour of North America, will tell the inside stories of those times, and Brooke Halpin, musician and host of the radio show "Come Together with the Beatles," will sing Beatle hits.

Ivor Davis and Brooke Halpin

In addition, admission includes a screening of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, starring Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, Aero Smith, Alice Cooper, Earth, Wind and Fire, Billy Preston, Steve Martin, and George Burns.

"I love to tell my Beatles stories-events I witnessed while touring with them," said Davis, "and Brooke sings Beatle songs. Author to have book release party at Beatles festival
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Tuesday, 09/06/16 3:15 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

Renowned Beatles blogger Sara Schmidt will have a book release party for her recent publication, "Happiness is Seeing The Beatles: The Beatles in St. Louis," on Saturday, September 17, at the Beatles at the Ridge festival. Schmidt will be giving a presentation, as well as signing copies of her book for purchase. Cake and coffee will be served.

Sara Schmidt at Paul-Fest weekend 2016

Schmidt, a Title 1 reading teacher for 2nd to 5th grade students, started her "Meet the Beatles for Real" blog in 2009, a site that now has over 3 million hits. For Happiness is Seeing The Beatles, she interviewed more than 60 fans and insiders over the course of two years. The book has rare photos, many of which had never before been published. One of the many interesting stories in it tells why Paul McCartney called The Beatles' concert in St. Louis "the worst little gig we ever played."

"Some of the concerts were rough on the band, while they remained life-changing experiences for the fans in the audience," Schmidt explains. "I am so excited about having my book release celebration as part of this festival," says Schmidt. "And it will be a combination of two of my all-time favorite things: cake and The Beatles!"

You can meet Sarah on Saturday, September 17 at 10:15 a.m. CT at The Studio on Main Street as part of the Beatles at the Ridge festival in Walnut Ridge, AR.

Beatles at the Ridge is a free event. For a complete weekend schedule, please visit www.beatlesattheridge.com. For more information on Sara Schmidt and her book, visit www.stlbeatles.com or her blog at www.meetthebeatlesforreal.com.

Fans flock to Liverpool for 2016 International BeatleWeek
[Posted by Katie Hickox on Friday, 09/02/16 5:48 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

A Splendid Time was Guaranteed For All at 2016 International BeatleWeek in Liverpool.

What was different about the 2016 International BeatleWeek Festival was the various concerts dedicated to not only living legend of Paul McCartney but to also "Past Masters" and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the fantastic music from 1966 in not one, but in two concerts, as there was so much incredible music created by the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Monkies, The Hollies.

Los Angeles-based cover band Britain's Finest at the Cavern

What an incredible experience to recreate an actual concert of how the Beatles would have performed at one of their early concerts in Hamburg, Germany while they were still in their Gene Vincent style leather outfits and Teddy Boy haircuts and unpolished stage manners. The Beatles' early Hamburg concert was part of the Friday night's "Early Years Concert" from 1957-1964 and included the original Quarrymen, Terry Sylvester, Karl Terry, Mike Pender, Ray Ennis and Billy Kinsley.

For Beatles fans who were unable to travel to Liverpool England and experience any of the many Beatles tribute bands and the fantastic concerts, you missed out but you can always start planning for next year 2017! With recent drop in the value of the Sterling pound, it's never been a better time to book your trip for next year's 2017 International BeatleWeek! The best seats, hotels and tours book up fast every year!

RTE Radio One to broadcast Beatles play on Sunday
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Thursday, 08/18/16 9:30 am] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

The national broadcaster in Ireland, RTE Radio One, will broadcast the play "Death and the Beatles Fan" by Stephen Kennedy at 8pm on Sunday, August 21.

The play is a black comedy about what happens when Death attempts to kill a Beatles' fan who really has no interest in dying, basically a Beatles-filled spoof of The Seventh Seal. The play will be directed by Gorretti Slavin, and features three great actors for the piece, Jonathan Ryan, Joe Taylor and Joe Hanley.

Beatle fans all over the world will be able to listen to the play at www.rte.ie/radio1/.

Playwright Stephen Kennedy in Liverpool

Kennedy's play "John Lennon's Last Day" was recently put up by the BBC for the Imison Award, an award in the UK which is presented annually to the best audio drama script by a new writer. The play, performed by Ian Hart, was broadcast on BBC Radio 2 last October, to mark what would have been John Lennon's 75th birthday.

His most recent stage play "Pete Best of The Beatles," which had its debut run at the New Theatre in Dublin in February, to full houses and standing ovations, returns in the autumn.
