New John Lennon film to premiere at Abbey Road on the River

Louisville, KY (May 11, 2010) -- "Let Him Be," a film written, directed and composed by Peter McNamee, will make its U.S. premiere at this year's WHAS-11 Abbey Road on the River in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, May 28th at 11:00am at the Galt House Hotel. This intriguing new, critically acclaimed Canadian film will also be shown during the festival on Saturday, May 29th at 11:00am and Sunday, May 30th at 4:00pm. There will be a Q&A session with the director after each screening.

In "Let Him Be", two film students discover something uncanny on a tape found inside an old video camera bought at a garage sale in a remote northern Canadian town. It contains a brief clip of an old man who bears more than a passing resemblance to an older John Lennon. Is Lennon alive and living? The two become fixated. Could it be him? It's an absurd idea that they might have passed off if it were not for the fact that the man also sounds so much like Lennon.

Did John Lennon stage his own death to live a life of anonymity in his second-favorite nation? The filmmakers decide to uncover the truth. With hidden body cameras, wireless cameras and surveillance cameras, the viewer gets to experience first-hand the possibility that history deceived us. Illusion and reality tangle and swirl on this remarkable journey of discovery.

The documentary film "The Mayor of Strawberry Fields," a chronicle of the quirky life of a homeless man named Ayrton "Gary" Ferreria dos Santos Jr. who has been decorating John Lennon's "Imagine" memorial in Central Park for the past 15 years, will also be shown at this year's WHAS-11 Abbey Road on the River. Gary's work has been documented in the New York Post, and his income comes from the tips he receives from tourists as a result of his work, and the three-minute monologue he delivers to tourists that describes his work and the life of John Lennon and his family. Produced and written by Buffalo, NY born filmmaker Torre Catalano, the film will be shown on Friday, May 28th at 3:00pm and on Saturday, May 29th at 2:15pm.

WHAS-11 Abbey Road on the River, a five day music festival celebrating the greatest rock band of all time, will be held at the Belvedere and Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky from May 27th to May 31st.
