John Lennon 70th birthday celebration in Hollywood on October 9
Hollywood, CA--With the magical sounds of the Beatles song "They Say It's Your Birthday" streaming through the air, the "John Lennon 70th Birthday Public Celebration" will be underway. The free-to-the-public special event will take place from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9 at Lennon's Hollywood Walk of Fame Star to celebrate the life and music of the late legendary singer, songwriter, peace activist and Beatles member. Lennon's star is located at 1750 N. Vine Street, in front of the Capitol Records Tower Building.
Event highlights will include an opening performance of "Imagine" by popular violinist and vocalist Lili Haydn, and a special cake-cutting ceremony led by Chris Carter, host of the longest running Beatles radio show, "Breakfast With the Beatles". Also, Lennon and Beatles fans will be invited to inscribe messages on a 100-foot long "John Lennon 70th Birthday Message Scroll" that will be sent to Yoko Ono. Lennon and Beatles songs will be performed throughout the afternoon celebration. Artistic face painters will be at the event for the kids (and young at heart). And, of course, Lennon's star will be decorated with flowers and candles as well as Lennon and Beatles memorabilia.
A special highlight of the celebration will be the creation of Lennon and Beatles-themed sidewalk chalk art murals by more than two dozen local chalk artists, including Shuji Nishimura, who won last years' Peoples Choice Award at the Pasadena Chalk Art Festival for his creative John Lennon sidewalk mural. The chalk artists will begin creating their sidewalk drawings around the perimeter of the Capitol Records Building at 8:00AM.
Also, performing "In My Life" will be the singing group "The Three of Us". Singer Jordan Zeigler will perform "Beautiful Boy" for John and Yoko's son Sean Lennon, who was born the same day as his dad and is turning 35.
The Hollywood event is one of many John Lennon 70th birthday events taking place on and around October 9, including Liverpool, England where he was born and New York City where John and Yoko lived.
Also, on Wednesday, December 8 fans of John Lennon and the Beatles will gather once again at Lennon's Hollywood Walk of Fame Star to honor and remember him on the 30th anniversary of his tragic gunshot death. The "John Lennon 30th Annual Memorial Candlelight Remembrance" is not meant to be a time of mourning, but a time to again celebrate his life, music, and creative spirit. The special event will be free to the public and will take place from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
Both events are being sponsored by the Alliance for Survival peace and environmental group.
