The Beatles cover Elvis Presley in new Live at the BBC recordings

John Lennon famously remarked, "Before Elvis, there was nothing." The Beatles never officially recorded any cover versions of Presley's songs, however, "The Beatles: Live at the BBC" and "On Air: Live at the BBC, Volume 2," which are being released today, showcase The Fab Four singing four songs released by Elvis.

Live on air: Beatles at the Beeb is a rough and ready gem

As much as their time in Hamburg and Cavern gigs, it was the music they made for the BBC in the early Sixties that set The Beatles apart. This second volume of live BBC sessions is a brilliant snapshot of a working band still finding their feet, but delivering, in the words of Paul McCartney, "some of the performances of our lifetimes."

Listen: Preview of Beatles Live at The BBC: Volume 2 album streams online

A preview of the second volume of The Beatles Live At The BBC is being streamed online. The double album contains 63 tracks, none of which are on the first volume, 37 previously unreleased performances, and two tracks which were never recorded by the group's record label. The collection will be released on Monday, November 11.

Review: New Beatles BBC album On Air is a low-key, freewheeling delight

On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2, a sequel to 1994's Live at the BBC, is drawn from the hours and hours of live broadcasts the Beatles recorded for the BBC between 1962 and 1965, when they were young, eager to please, and still willing to take requests from "all the girls at lower fourth in Blackburne House, Liverpool," and the like.
