John's idea for a song for BBC TV show becomes world-wide love anthem

In 1967, when Brian Epstein told the Beatles they were to be filmed making their next record, they were already deeply involved in making Sgt. Pepper. With a distinct lack of enthusiasm, John finally said, "Oh, OK, I'll do something for that." Brian told him, "You have a platform, why don't you use it for this universal message?"

All You Need is Love goes live to the world 50 years ago today

Capitalizing on the capabilities of satellite technology, on June 25, 1967, the BBC program "Our World," featuring segments from 20 countries, was beamed out live to the entire planet. Given the Beatles' world-wide popularity, it only made sense that the UK's segment would spotlight them, broadcast from EMI's Studio 1.
