Which Beatle has the worse Christmas Song?

Put on any radio station and within one hour you'll hear both "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney and "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon. They are not good songs. It's okay, you can admit it. But the real question here isn't even so much "Are the songs bad?" as it is "They are bad but which one is worse?"

Video: Paul McCartney joins Jimmy Fallon for Wonderful Christmastime

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon unveiled an updated, a cappella rendition of Paul McCartney's holiday classic Wonderful Christmastime on last night's show. Celebrities joining Fallon and The Roots included Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johannson and Matthew McConaughey. At around the 1:00 minute mark, Paul himself joins in.

Is this simply the worst Christmas song of all? Hardly

The people who hate "Wonderful Christmastime" are probably music snobs, people who've determined that every song's message must be couched in symbolism or importance and must take two months to produce. Nearly every criticism of the song mentions that it sounds as though it were written in five minutes. So what?

Fans vote Wonderful Christmastime most irritating Christmas song

According to the Philadelphia Enquirer newspaper, about 3,300 voters entered the poll, and it wasn't ever out of the top spot: Paul McCartney's (Simply Having A) Wonderful Christmastime, which many of you felt possessed all the musical charm of a grade schooler learning to play the recorder.

In defense of Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime

Paul McCartney's 1979 solo single, Wonderful Christmastime, has been a critical lightning rod for decades. Although the Beatles are generally beloved, critics have been known to tear into the song, with its sleigh bells, a slightly ragged-sounding McCartney vocal delivery, and very little lyrical substance, which has always rankled the song's haters.

Paul McCartney's simple, repetitive synth-laden ode to the holiday season has become loathed in recent years, perhaps because it is played over and over and over and over again once the holiday season arrives. But it's important to resist this urge to hate it, no matter how many times the song hits your ears this December.
