Geoff Emerick speaks out about misinformation regarding Sgt. Pepper remix

In a new interview in Variety, EMI Abbey Road recording Engineer Geoff Emerick has spoken out the publicity surrounding the new Sgt. Pepper remix, which he says he found "defamatory and disrespectful." Emrick said, "I've read that we put no time into the stereo mix, which is just inaccurate."

Giles Martin talks Sgt. Pepper on the Tonight Show

Giles Martin was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, and shared insights about his work on the Sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary reissue. Martin said, "No one's ever said, 'Sgt. Pepper doesn't sound very good. I work for Paul and Ringo and Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison. They're my bosses."

Sgt. Pepper hits No. 1 in Billboard 50 years later

The 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band jumped to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart a week after the release of the new stereo remix. Factoring in streams, Sgt. Pepper was topped only by rapper Bryson Tiller's "True to Self," on Billboard's sales-only ranking, however, Sgt. Pepper is No. 1.

Sgt. Pepper is the bestselling studio album in the U.K. ever

This week in the U.K., The Beatles are back at No. 1 after half a century away with the newly-released anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. This past week, the title shifted another 37,000 equivalent units, which adds to the already impressive total the record has been able to move over the decades.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band returns to No. 1 in the UK

The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is marching back to No. 1 in the U.K., a half century after it first conquered the sales chart. The remastered 50th anniversary edition of the album has shifted 24,000 combined sales at the halfway stage of the new chart week and grabs pole position on the Official Albums Chart Update.

On May 26, The Beatles will release a new remixed version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on CD and vinyl, and this 50th anniversary edition is a vibrant achievement. Giles Martin and Sam Okell took the original master tapes and enhanced the sound to bring it up to date to the stereo standards of the 21st century.

Sgt. Pepper 50th Anniversary Box Set number 5 a week before release

One week before its release, the 50th anniversary edition box set of the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" ranks at number 5 on amazon. It's been there more or less every day for the last month. Capitol Records doesn't release pre-order figures, but at this rate the box could be the number 1 album the week it goes on sale.

Audio: Take 1 of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

The Beatles worked on Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds over four days; rehearsing it, laying down instrumental backing, adding a piano at one point from producer George Martin. Take 1 lacks backing vocals, John is singing lead and Paul McCartney is at a Lowrey organ, a true collaboration, a bit of magic unfolding. It's thrilling to hear.

Giles Martin defends his new stereo Sgt. Pepper

On his new stereo remix of Sgt. Pepper, Giles Martin says, "Originally, I was against remixing the Beatles. But there's a technical answer, which is that the stereo mix was never theirs and the mono mix, which they did themselves and is superior, does sound 'old', like it was done 50 years go...I don't want it to ever sound 'old'. Nor do the Beatles."

Similar to the one we all know by heart, it is obviously a rougher early run-through, crowd noises and a brass arrangement are missing.

Paul McCartney admits Sgt. Pepper was a risk

In a new interview, Paul McCartney talked to Mojo Magazine about Sgt. Pepper. Paul remembered, "We were always being told, 'You're gonna lose all your fans with this one.' And we'd say, 'Well, we'll lose some but we'll gain some.' We've gotta advance." He also compares the original stereo mix to the new mix by Giles Martin.

Beatles $150 Sgt. Pepper Anniversary box set number 1 on Amazon

The Beatles' 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the number 1 album on Amazon this morning. With very little promotion, the package zoomed to the top of Amazon's album chart, and was announced yesterday after several web sites published its leaked promo video from You Tube.

It's Official! Beatles Sgt. Pepper gets 50th anniversary reissue

The Beatles formally announced today the release of "a suite of lavishly presented" Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band 50th anniversary packages to be released on April 26. The album is newly mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio and expanded with early takes from the studio sessions.

Beatles 6-CD Sgt. Pepper 50th Super Deluxe Edition due

The Beatles are preparing a 50th Anniversary release of the Sgt. Pepper album in a variety of editions including a "Super Deluxe Edition" 6-CD set. Other configurations have not yet been revealed, but Best Classic Bands learned today that this mammoth version, as well as single CD, 2-CD and 2-LP editions, is set for a May 26 release.

Report: Ringo thinks upcoming Sgt. Pepper reissue sounds great

A friend of Ringo Starr reports he has heard the updated Sgt. Pepper and thinks it sounds great. He said Ringo was impressed after hearing it in high-def because "it originally was recorded on a 4-track with a lot of overdubs, which buried the drums. Now, the drums have been lifted and come through as they should. He was pleased."

Beatles update tease for Sgt. Pepper 50th Anniversary Reissue

The Beatles today further teased a Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band reissue. At just after 9 a.m. ET, the graphic that they had posted on March 31 was revised with animation and the first 10 seconds of the title track, on their social media accounts. The much-beloved album will celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 1.

Beatles tease Sgt. Pepper Anniversary Edition?

The Beatles today teased a highly colorful graphic on their various social media accounts, leading to speculation that they are planning a Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band reissue. The album will celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 1. On March 6, on the new release, a spokesperson said, "We have no information at this time."
