Beatles Biggest Secrets Sunday night on BBC America

Review by Katie Hickox

"Beatles Biggest Secrets", which airs this Sunday on BBC America, is a must see show, well worth spending 90 minutes.

The show covers the early "seedy" beginnings of the Beatles from the Hamburg days, and reveals some new "secrets" about the Beatles themselves and their rise to fame.

The show also includes new interviews with Beatles friend, critic and historian Bill Harry, editor/founder of the "Mersey Beat" paper in Liverpool, Alistair Taylor who was Beatles Manager Brian Epstein's Main Assistant and was General Manager of Apple, Beatles publicist Tony Barrow, Beatles Road Manager Tony Bramwell who recently wrote "Magical Mystery Tours", and Claus Voorman who designed the very cool Revolver album cover.

People interviewed also include some new folks for the first time, such as 60's British Beat Poet and Lennon friend Royston Ellis "who suggested Lennon spell Beatles with an "a" and the band eventually wrote and recorded the hit song "Paperback Writer" about Ellis." Interviews from lesser known folks are also incluced from the Beatles early Liverpool days, such as Sam Leach and Allan Williams who helped booked early Beatles gigs before Brian Epstein came on board and was able to secure the first record contract in June 1962 with EMI's George Martin.

It is these new interviews shown for the first time along with the new information revealed in those interviews that makes this program a "must see" for any Beatles fan.

From BBC America's web site:

There was a time when the Beatles were the biggest, most famous band in the world, and much to the pleasure of parents around the globe - they had a squeaky clean reputation. But behind-the-scenes, the Fab Four lived lives filled with rock & roll. Featuring interviews with people who knew and worked with the Beatles from their early days performing in Hamburg clubs right up through the dizzying heights of their fame, this remarkable documentary lifts the veil on the biggest rock band of all time.

The show airs this Sunday on BBC America on April 8th at 5:30PM EST or 2:30PM PST.
