Nashville's WannaBeatles celebrate 40th Anniversary of Rooftop Concert
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 2009) -- The popular Nashville band The WannaBeatles will attempt to relive history on Jan. 30 (Friday) when they perform on the roof of Rippy's nightclub on Broadway to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' legendary rooftop performance in London. Like their idols, The WannaBeatles will take the stage at exactly 12 noon, performing hits such as "Let It Be", "Get Back", and "Two of Us". A portion of the proceeds from donations and the sale of WannaBeatles merchandise will benefit the MENC: National Association for Music Education, an organization that advances education by encouraging the study and making of music.
Admission to The WannaBeatles concert is free to music lovers of all ages. Beatles fans can enjoy the two-hour concert on Rippy's roof or from sidewalks along Broadway and Fourth Avenue South. Space on the roof is limited to the first 150 people.

Members of The WannaBeatles are vocalist/guitarist Dennis Scott, vocalist/bassist/keyboardist Jim Hayden, vocalist/guitarist/saxophonist Bryan Cumming, and vocalist/drummer/percussionist David Toledo. "The Beatles inspired us and a whole generation of kids to appreciate the gift of music," said two-time Grammy winner Dennis Scott. "This concert is a great opportunity to help pass on the musical torch and, through MENC, bring attention to the important role music plays in a child's development and the need to support music in the schools."
The Beatles' 42-minute show occurred at noon Jan. 30, 1969 on the fifth-floor roof of Apple Records' London headquarters. The performance has passed into history as the band's last live appearance. The Nashville show is sponsored by WNRQ-FM 105.9 The Rock and Whiting Publicity & Promotions.
Rippy's is located at 429 Broadway in downtown Nashville. For more information or to make a donation to the MENC, call (615) 309-8688 or send an e-mail to dsmusic@comcast.net. Published January 12, 2009
