Front Page > Beatles NewsPublisher finds warehouse cache of book that has become collector's item
January 23, 2009 -- New Orleans, Louisiana -- 498 Productions is pleased to announce a warehouse find of additional copies of the book "The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records, Part One: Beatlemania & The Singles." The book officially sold out last spring and has been changing hands on the secondary market for $100 to $200.
The books were discovered during the year end inventory count at the warehouse used by 498 Productions. The books had been placed by warehouse employees in large boxes marked "Voodoo Kit" (a local souvenir item sold in New Orleans shops). Apparently this was done to move the books to another part of the warehouse in preparation for Hurricane Katrina.

The book's author, Bruce Spizer, expressed relief that additional copies had been found. "I have been getting numerous requests for the book from people who owned the second Capitol book, but could not afford to pay $100 or more to buy the first Capitol book from dealers and ebay sellers." The book will be available exclusively from 498 Productions, which will be selling the book for its original sales price of $50. It may be ordered online at www.beatle.net or by phone at 504-524-2880.
In order to ensure that as many people needing the book will have the opportunity to purchase the book, Bruce has requested that people only buy the book for themselves or for gifts to friends. "I'm asking that people be fair about this and not act out of greed. Please don't buy multiple copies of the book for resale at inflated prices on ebay. Let those who need the book buy the book from us for fifty bucks."
In addition to making the Capitol Part One book available again, the warehouse find enables 498 Productions to sell Capitol Slipcase Editions again, which contain both Capitol books in an attractive case for $125. These editions will not be numbered as the numbered edition sold out years ago. Approximately 20 copies of the Capitol Collector's Edition remain for sale at $210. The Collector's Edition is limited to 200 numbered copies, has the slipcase autographed by former Capitol president Alan Livingston and author Bruce Spizer, and comes with posters of Capitol singles and albums.
Although the Collector's Editions for the Apple books and the Swan book have sold out, there are a few remaining Collector's Editions of "The Beatles Are Coming!" and "The Price Guide for The Beatles American Records."
Unfortunately no additional copies of Bruce's first book, "The Beatles Records on Vee-Jay," were found. That book sold out a few years ago and commands from $250 to $400 or more on the secondary market.
In honor of the upcoming 45th anniversary of The Beatles arrival in America, "The Beatles Are Coming! The Birth of Beatlemania in America" will be on sale for $40 in hard cover and $15 in paperback. "The Price Guide for The Beatles American Records" is also on sale for $40, with its slipcase edition on sale for $65. For those looking for bargains or obtaining "working" copies of the books, some titles are available with scratched or dented covers at half price. The inside pages of these books are perfect. Check the website or call 504-524-2880 for availability.
Bruce's books on the Beatles American record releases have been praised by collectors, fans and critics. All of his books were named "Beatles Book of the Year" by Goldmine magazine in their year of publication. Available titles include: "The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records, Part One: Beatlemania & The Singles," "The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records, Part Two: The Albums," "The Beatles on Apple Records," "The Beatles Solo on Apple Records," and the final, catch-all book in the series, "The Beatles Swan Song: 'She Loves You' & Other Records," which covers releases on Swan, United Artists, Decca, MGM, Atco, Polydor and other labels, as well as coverage on the Capitol albums and singles from the seventies and eighties.
"The Beatles Are Coming! The Birth of Beatlemania in America," which includes over 500 color and original black & white images (many published for the first time) and a foreword by Walter Cronkite, is considered the definitive book on how Beatlemania developed in America. Bruce also edited and published Perry Cox and Frank Daniels "The Price Guide for The Beatles American Records." These books are also available from 498 Productions. » Reader Comments (1)
