Front Page > Beatles NewsABC Australia announces Beatles digital radio documentaries
ABC Beatles is the latest special event broadcast offered on digital radio by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
On Friday 10th April, 1970, Paul McCartney released a Q & A style press release in which he stated that his song writing partnership with John Lennon was over. This statement was widely considered the official announcement of The Beatles break-up.
On the 40th anniversary of this statement, ABC Radio is presenting a weekend of very special digital radio broadcasting to celebrate the band from Liverpool who changed the course of popular music.

Beginning at 8am, Saturday 10th April and continuing until midnight Sunday 11th April, ABC Beatles will give listeners the opportunity to hear rare and exclusive material drawn from the depths of the BBC Radio archives. The broadcast will include an in-depth history of the band, interviews and recordings from their visits to BBC studios and carefully crafted documentaries.
"Most of the material that's in the BBC Radio archives would never have been broadcast in Australia before. With such an auspicious anniversary upon us and now having the ability to create special event digital radio broadcasts, we felt it was high time the Australian public heard it." ABC Digital Radio Content Director, Stuart Matchett said.
ABC special event digital radio has already revisited the historic Apollo 11 moon landing mission, taken listeners on a musical trip back to Woodstock, brought together the excitement of the 2009 Melbourne International Arts Festival, marked the 10th Anniversary of East Timor's independence referendum, celebrated Australian music month by highlighting triple j's Unearthed artists and given listeners the perfect Christmas holiday soundtrack with Classic Season. ABC Beatles is yet another example of the unique content and specialised programming that can be offered by the ABC through digital radio.
Digital Radio can be heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
