Acclaimed Beatles author to release new book next year

BEATLES NEWS EXCLUSIVE
By David Haber, Beatles News Editor

In an exclusive interview with Beatles News today, Beatles author Bruce Spizer says that he will be releasing a book on the Beatles U.K. records titled Beatles For Sale on Parlophone, and hopes to have the book available in August, 2011, in time for the Fest for Beatles Fans in Chicago and the International Beatles Week in Liverpool taking place that month.

The book is being compiled by Mr. Spizer, who is the author of eight critically acclaimed books on the Beatles American records, and Frank Daniels, with Mr. Spizer writing the text. It will be in the same style and format as the previous books by Mr. Spizer, including high quality original black & white and full color images.

According to Mr. Spizer, this exciting new book will have over 350 pages and cover the Beatles singles, albums and extended play (EP) discs released in the U.K. from 1962 through 1970. Mr. Spizer said, "This new book covers the Beatles Parlophone EPs, which up until now haven't been accurately documented in any book."

Although the book will be titled Beatles For Sale on Parlophone, Mr. Spizer adds that it will also cover the records appearing on the Apple label, which were manufactured and distributed by EMI, as well as the handful of releases on Polydor of the group's Hamburg recordings.

Mr. Spizer is the author of seven books on the Beatles in America, and was the editor of the Price Guide to the Beatles American Records, which was co-written by Frank Daniels and Perry Cox. But, he was a bit reluctant to tackle a book about the Beatles records in the U.K.

He told Beatles News, "Although I've had received numerous requests to write a book on the Beatles U.K. records, I've in the past said no, believing that someone else would do a book on the subject incorporating my style. After no such book was forthcoming and after further prodding, I accepted Mr. Daniels' offer to work together on the project."

Although he admitted he knew virtually nothing about the U.K. records when approached by Mr. Daniels on this new project, Mr. Spizer said, "I knew how thorough Frank was from working with him on the Beatles price guide. I'm a quick study. I knew nothing about the Beatles U.S. records at the time I did the Vee-Jay book." Spizer, who is a tax and estate planning attorney, explained, "I work on my books the same way I prepare a case for trial, quickly but thorough, with a strong desire to get to the truth."

Mr. Spizer said he'll have more exciting news about this new book in his appearance at the Fest For Beatles Fans in Chicago which is taking place this coming weekend.

Mr. Spizer also told Beatles News that his second book, The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records, Part One, had sold out, joining his first book, The Beatles Records on Vee-Jay. Both books are commanding huge premiums in the secondary market. For example, a copy of The Beatles Records on Vee-Jay is currently for sale on eBay U.K. for $1,574.00. Mr. Spizer says they're also running low on The Beatles on Apple Records and The Beatles Story on Capitol Records, Part Two, with both titles likely selling out sometime next year. He said there are no current plans to reprint the sold out titles, although they have not ruled out making the books available for digital downloads within the next few years.
