Front Page > Beatles NewsBeatles Tribute Festival kicks off tomorrow with free concert
Washington, D.C. -- Abbey Road on the River, North America's largest and longest running Beatles tribute festival, will kick off its 2nd year in our Nation's Capital with a free concert on Thursday, September 1 beginning at 5:00pm. The free show will be held at the site of "The Awakening," a 70-foot statue of a giant embedded in the earth struggling to free himself, located on the banks of the Potomac River at National Harbor.
Guests will enjoy a full set by three international bands - Itchycoo Park from Scotland, Old Brown Show from the Netherlands, and All You Need is Love from Canada - as well as a set from the high energy band from Cincinnati - The Newbees. At 9:30pm, All You Need is Love and The Newbees will "come together" with special guest James Paul Lynch from the band BritBeat (Chicago) to perform an excerpt from the Grammy-award winning soundtrack album, LOVE.
Those attending the free concert on Thursday will get a sneak peak of one of this year's festival highlights - "The LOVE Album Live Concert" presented by Gretsch Guitars, which will feature a full reenactment of the LOVE album, taking place at 8:30pm on Saturday, September 3 on the Main Lawn Stage at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, and again on Sunday September 4 at 1:45pm.
Festival organizers have also partnered with Coors Light and several bars and restaurants along National Harbor's Fleet Street to offer special discounts to festival goers. Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar, Cadillac Ranch All American Bar & Grill, McCormick & Schmick's Harborside at National Harbor, Public House, and Harrington's Pub & Kitchen will all host free concerts and offer discounts not only on Thursday night, but throughout the Labor Day weekend as well. Fleet Street kicks things off on Thursday night with the "Get Back Preview Reception" at 10:15pm and then the Steve Sizemore Group 11:00pm, both at Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar.
Abbey Road on the River returns to the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center from September 1st - 5th, bringing more than 50 bands from around the world to National Harbor. Beatles fans will enjoy several classically arranged shows from D.C.'s Voce Chamber Singers and The Washington Saxophone Quartet, as well as a special performance by acclaimed soprano Alessandra Marc. Her performance will include an artistic arrangement of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" accompanied on guitar by her husband John.
