Beatles authors to debate The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones

Carterville, Illinois -- The John A. Logan College Continuing Education Department will host two leading rock and roll/Beatles experts, Jude Southerland Kessler and Lanea Stagg, on the John A. Logan College campus in Carterville, Illinois, on Wednesday, September 20, for a presentation titled "The British Invasion (a debate on The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones)".

Barry Hancock, Dean of Community Education, and Terry Crain, Business Functions Analyst, has organized the event as part of the college's celebration of its fiftieth anniversary.

Jude Southerland Kessler, one of the country's leading John Lennon experts, is the author of The John Lennon Series, a 9-volume historical narrative on the life of John Lennon. The first book, "Shoulda Been There", covers John's life from 1940 to December 1961. The second book, "Shivering Inside", details John's life from Dec. 1961 to March 1963. The third volume, "She Loves You", was released in January 2014 and covers the "Beatlemania Years," 1963 to February 1964, and Kessler's fourth book, "Should Have Known Better", spanning Mar. 1964 to March 1965, will be released in March 2018.

Kessler began writing the first volume on The John Lennon Series in 1986, spending 20 years positioning herself as one of the top Lennon research authorities by conducting multiple interviews in Liverpool, UK, and the United States, by collecting and reading hundreds of books about Lennon, and by utilizing numerous interview DVDs, CDs, and periodicals. She has taught classes on The Beatles for public schools and colleges and has advised numerous Beatles' authors about the facts versus the myths of John Lennon's life.

Kessler's first two books have received positive reviews and acclaim as "the only factional" narrative biography, to quote Beatles author and Mersey Beat creator, Bill Harry. Steve Marinucci of BeatlesExaminer referred to Kessler's books as "expanded biographies" of Lennon.

Ms. Kessler has dual degrees in English and in History, and a Master's in English from the University of Maryland. She speaks professionally to organizations all over the country, including The Fest for Beatles Fans in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Kessler has served as Chairperson for the Beatles at the Ridge "Authors and Artists Beatles Symposium" for 6 years and was the Chair for the GRAMMY Museum of Mississippi Beatles Symposium. She has written for Beatlefan Magazine, BeatlesNews, and many other publications.

Lanea Stagg is author of The Recipe Records Series, as well as the "kid-dult" book about dealing with loss, "Little Dog in the Sun". The original Recipe Records book was written by Stagg with her best friend and co-author, Maggie McHugh. After the unexpected death of McHugh, Stagg continued with their dream of a rock 'n' roll cookbook series. She made that vision into reality, releasing "Recipe Records: The Sixties Edition" and "Recipe Records: A Culinary Tribute to the Beatles".

Stagg's newest volume in the innovative series, "Let's Spend a Bite Together", a tribute to the Rolling Stones, comes out in August 2018. The author gives programs to civic and other groups for each of her books, as well as conducting cooking classes for children and hosting a popular radio show on BlogTalkRadio.

She was a featured cast member in Evansville, Indiana's inaugural production of the nationally-acclaimed "Listen To Your Mother Show," has been a part of the invitation-only "Authors and Artists" symposium at Beatles at the Ridge for the past three years, and was one of five authors selected to speak at the GRAMMY Museum of Mississippi Beatles Symposium, 2016.

The presentation will take place at the John A. Logan College campus in Carterville, Illinois, on Wednesday, September 20, in the Crisp Room from 11am until noon. The event is free and open to the public.
