Good news about possible Beatles remasters
[Posted by Dave Haber on Tuesday, 02/12/08 10:07 am] [Full Blog] [Tweet] [Facebook]

Audiophile blogger Steve Guttenberg posted a new inteview today with master remastering engineer Greg Calbi. In it he touches briefly on Beatles remastering, and Mr. Calbi gave an answer that confirms a bit of info Beatles fans have been hoping for:

What about iTunes? I ask Calbi about the rumors about the Beatles catalog being remastered for iTunes. He was ahead of me, "They're not being remastered just for iTunes; they're being remastered because they got a deal with iTunes. I was partially involved the discussions leading up to the remastering sessions, most of the Beatles catalog hasn't been remastered in 20 years." It's likely the new remasters are destined for CD release.

While there has been no official announcement of either Beatles on iTunes or remastered CDs, it is generally assumed the Beatles on iTunes is a done deal, which Mr. Calbi seems to verify. In addition, it has been the further hope of fans that this new remastering of the Beatles catalogue would result in reissues on CD, and this new info seems to indicate that would be likely.
