Stupendous! Collossal! The best musical play ever!
These are all things that have been said about other shows. Last night, however, I saw Rutlemania! live at the Ricardo Montalban Theater in Hollywood.
But seriously, folks, it was really well done and everybody had a great time! The show is a tribute to the Rutles and is a combination of the original Rutles footage on screen with the Fab Four playing the Rutles music live.
I have to tell you, the Fab Four do a remarkable job recreating the Rutles music. They literally do such a good job recreating the original sound of the Rutles, that at last night's performance, which was the second performance so far of the show, Eric Idle felt it necessary to mention that all the music you will hear tonight is being played live by the Fab Four!
Many of the people involved in the original production of the All You Need Is Cash movie were present at last night's performance, including all four of the original Rutles, Eric Idle (Dirk), Neil Innes (Nasty), Rikki Fataar (Stig) and John Halsey (Barry). Also in attendance was John Altman, "the George Martin of the Rutles", orchestrator for both Rutles albums, and other earlier Neil Innes and Monty Python music. He's also appeared onstage with the Rutles in their various reunion tours.

The whole show is the brain-child of original Rutle and ex-Python Eric Idle, who has creatively combined the classic Rutles show and the live performance of Neil Innes' great Rutles music into a really fun and exciting event!
Both old and new Rutles fans alike will love this show. Fans really familiar with the original All You Need Is Cash movie will notice many new small bits of film never seen before, including original performance film of Blue Suede Schubert. New Rutles fans will just love the music, faithfully and energetically reproduced by the Fab Four.
There are three more chances for Los Angelinos to experience Rutlemania! March 19, 20 and 21st. Then the show moves to New York City for four performances. Click here for more information!
More Rutles reporting coming right up as your humble Paperblog Wroter attends the 30th Anniversary of All You Need Is Cash at the American Cinematheque tonight! Stay tuned!
In the meantime, remember, in the words of Dirk McQuickly:
"And in the end
the lunch you take
to the lunch you bake."
