Capitol/EMI to reissue some classic vinyl

Widely covered last week in the news was a story about a Portland, Oregon, music store chain that mistakenly checked "LP" instead of "CD" when ordering the latest popular album. When the box of LPs arrived, they put them out, just to see what would happen, and were surprised to learn that they sold out quickly.

Today, according to Rolling Stone magazine, a rep at Capitol/EMI confirms that EMI will be releasing fifteen of their most popular albums on vinyl on August 15. Included in these new reissues will be Paul McCartney and Wings' Band On The Run, John Lennon's Imagine and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

EMI says each reissue will replicate the original LP, including the original artwork and packaging. Pre-orders for the vinyl indicate that they will be priced in the $20 to $30 range.

While this is welcomed news, the "new popularity of vinyl" comes as no surprise to those many Beatles and Beach Boys fans who never stopped listening to LPs in the first place.

By the way, the best selling LP now at that store in Portland? Abbey Road.
