Yesterday, I was able to attend Brian Wilson's free concert at Seaside/Asser Levy Park in Brighton Beach/Coney Island in Brooklyn, N.Y. I'm having a tuff time figuring out how to review this show. Where do I begin to tell you about the BEST Beach Boy related show in the history of The Beach Boys?

I've seen The Beach Boys give a Free concert in Central Park in the late 70's. Brian Wilson also played with the band. It was Brian's big return to The Beach Boys around the time of 15 Big Ones and Love You albums. I've also seen The Beach Boys during what I call The Kokomo Years. I've also seen Brian Wilson's Smile concert at Carnegie Hall. I've seen these special shows, and still, last night was the most special of all.

Last night's show was with 99% Beach Boy's Hits with 1% New songs from Brian's forthcoming Capitol Records album entitled "That Lucky Old sun". It's hard to remember the exact sequence of songs, but here's the songs that were performed: Do It Again, Dance Dance Dance, At the Drive In, California Girls, Good Vibrations, Fun Fun Fun, I Get Around, Heroes and Villans, Surfin USA, Johnny B.Goode, god Only Knows, Going Home (From That Lucky old Sun), Add Some Music To Your Day, Do You wanna Dance, Barbara Ann, Surfer girl, Hey Marsella, Help me Rhonda, Wouldn't it be nice, All Summer Long and an Accapella version of Southern California (From That Lucky Old Sun). The New songs already sounded like hits when performed amongst all The Beach boys Hits.

Brian was very much into this show singing all throughout the evening, playing keyboards and guitar. He was truly having a great time, and joking around with the crowd. I might have left a few songs off the song list, but I hope you get an idea of what type of show this was. This was certainly Brian Wilson at his Best! The feel of the Coney Island Sea Breeze, The sounds of summer via Beach boy's music... In the words of the late Dr. Winston O' Boogie aka John Lennon (from the Rock N Roll sessions), "You should've been there!"
