The Beatles tribute band Sun Kings' Drew Harrison performed a heartfelt tribute "Spirit of John Lennon" on acoustic guitar last weekend at the Cafe DuNord nightclub in San Francisco. He played two more solo acoustic guitar tributes to John this week, the week of John's birthday.
He opened up the set with "Help" followed by "Norwegian Wood". He played some difficult songs to play on acoustic such as "Happiness is a Warm Gun" and "Revolution".
Before playing "Dear Prudence", Drew told a story about how a summer camp class making lanyard belts changed his life forever at the age of 7 when the camp instructor played his new copy of White Album for the first time and the new songs "kicked him on his butt" and he's been singing Beatles and John Lennon songs ever since.
In the first half Drew sang Beatles' "John songs" and the 2nd half was John's solo works. He ended the second half with "Real Love" that pulled together John's Beatles, unrealized dreams and what was real and finished the song with a reprise of "all you need is love.". As an encore, Drew played "Day in the Life" especially difficult for a solo acoustic guitar.
You can also catch Drew as "John" with the Sun Kings. Go to The Sun Kings official web site.
