All Things Must Pass released 40 years ago today [Posted by Dave Haber on Saturday, 11/27/10 1:49 pm] [Full Blog] [Tweet] [Facebook]George Harrison's landmark solo triple album All Things Must Pass was released 40 years ago today, on November 27, 1970. It was recorded from May to August 1970 at Abbey Road Studios, and then further recording and mixing at Trident Studios from August to September 1970.
All Things Must Pass was George's first solo album after the break-up of The Beatles, and featured the classics My Sweet Lord and What Is Life. It was eventually certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, making it the highest selling of any Beatle solo album.
The now infamous Phil Spector produced the album. Other people who played with George on the album include Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Gary Brooker of Procol Harum, Alan White of Yes and Gary Wright.
A remastered edition of All Things Must Pass, supervised by George, was released in 2001, just months before his death. This set contained bonus tracks, including a partially re-recorded additional version of My Sweet Lord. The remastered CD set is currently available at Amazon for $20.50.
In addition, to mark the 40th anniversary, Apple has released a numbered limited edition 3 LP vinyl box set of All Things Must Pass, available at georgeharrison.com for $68.99.
Sadly coincidentally, George passed away on November 29, 2001, just two days after the 31st anniversary of his masterpiece album.
