Unfinished Lennon song recovered by Spanish Beatles tribute band
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Wednesday, 11/02/11 6:11 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]
The Spanish Beatles tribute band, aptly named Los Escarabajos (Spanish word for "beetles") has recorded "Now And Then", an unfinished John Lennon song from 1979 that Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr tried in vain to complete in 1996 for the third volume of the Anthology project.
Los Escarabajos released a version of this original in 2001 for their CD Lennonphile (The Album That John Could Never Record), but the current rendition captures the concept of the singles included in Anthology by the remaining Beatles, "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love".
The 2011 remake of "Now And Then" is presented with an animated work by Alvaro Ortega, reputable Spanish visual artist, who shows his own colourful style reminding us of the ever classic Yellow Submarine and the recent The Beatles: Rock Band. (Click on the image above to watch the video.)
On the last World Animation Day, 28th of October, the song and video were published on YouTube, marking the 15th anniversary of The Beatles' Anthology 3 and the 10th anniversary of Los Escarabajos' Lennonphile.
In 2010, Los Escarabajos were given honorary degrees by the University of Seville for their work, having performed live the entire Beatles discography over the course of the Spanish group's 18-year history. The band was a headlining act at the International Beatle Week in Liverpool between 2003 and 2010.

Imagine the Beatles Tribute celebrates 20 years
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Thursday, 10/27/11 5:38 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]
It was 20 Years ago today, that Imagine went out to play, starting at clubs, restaurants, local events, private parties cruise ships, all the usual places an upcoming band would be expected to be performing at to learn its craft.
But Neil Burg of Imagine The Beatles Tribute says he never expected to perform for celebrities like Goldie Hawn and Tom Hanks, and on cruise ship lines like Royal Caribbean.
"I never knew we'd be performing for the clientele that we have performed for in the bands 20 year existence. It's been a dream come true for me personally ever since I saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show back in 1964."
|Imagine The Beatles Tribute|
Since 1991, the band has had some of the great performers step in and play from the Original BeatleMania bands, including Richie Ray, Don Linares, Leslie Fradkin, Jimmy Pou, Tony Kishman, and Alan Le Boeuf. When Imagine played Tom Hank's 10th wedding anniversary party, Tom himself came up and sang "That Thing You Do" with the band.
Burg, who plays Ringo in the band, remembers, "After seeing that happen, Malissa Ethridge came up unexpectedly and sang Twist and Shout with the band. It was a great night to remember."
The legendary Tim Piper has been in and out of Imagine for the better part of 15 years, to continue doing his own John Lennon Tribute shows. Also Imagine's newest member/percussionist, inspiring new actress, Kim Calligaro, performed with the band for her first show last weekend, and did a fantastic job.
Imagine The Beatles Tribute performs in and around the Los Angeles area. For more information about the guys and their show, visit www.imaginingthebeatles.com.

A Hulu Day's Night
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Tuesday, 09/27/11 4:09 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]
You should already have this on your Beatles DVD shelf, but in case you're stuck on a desert island and all you have access to is a laptop and the internet, the Beatles first movie A Hard Day's Night is available online through September 30 for free (with commercial interruptions) from video streaming site Hulu.
Watching it this way on my computer reminds me of those wonderful days so long ago (1993) when A Hard Day's Night was released on CD-ROM for PCs and the Mac. On my PC at the time, playback was somewhat jerky, but the CD-ROM had a cool feature, you could follow along with the script as you watched the movie.
|The Criterion A Hard Day's Night CD-ROM|
The Criterion CD-ROM (and the Criterion Laser Disc that preceded it) was also the first opportunity most fans had to see the 1960 Dick Lester short film that sold him as a director to the Beatles. The Running, Jumping & Standing Still Film can be viewed these days online on YouTube.
