Paul McCartney wows the audience at Love 5th anniversary
[Posted by Katie Hickox on Thursday, 06/09/11 4:03 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

Sir Paul McCartney made an unexpected appearance on the stage after the Cirque du Soleil's LOVE show 5th anniversary ended last night and said a few words saying he has nothing but praise for the LOVE show and "how it gets better and better every year" to the wildly cheering audience.

Paul McCartney and Olivia Harrison last night at Love

Ringo was unable to attend last night's show as he is touring, but he made a special videotaped message that was played on the giant screens before the LOVE show started wishing everyone his special "peace and love" message. Yoko Ono also spoke on stage and gave credit to Olivia Harrison for her work with LOVE. Also in attendance were Sir George Martin, his wife and son Giles who traveled all the way from London, along with Dhani Harrison and Sean Lennon.

Last night's LOVE 5th anniversary show was very special, all the stops were pulled and extra confetti streamed down both at the beginning and ending of the show. Each of the performers really went all out and put on a stellar performance. Each dancer seemed to jump a bit higher or moved with more grace, especially the roller skaters. Everything went off like clockwork. There were a few new costumes and props, and subtle changes have been made particularly to the Strawberry Fields and Day in the Life sequences.

Beatlesnews spoke with one attendee, Katie McRea, who traveled all the way from Morrison, Oklahoma to see her very first LOVE show simply because she had heard Paul was going to be in attendance. A fan of the Beatles for many years, she even naming her son "Paul" after Paul McCartney. Her favorite part of the LOVE show was sequence in which the song "Within you Without you" is played and when a huge white translucent giant sheet envelops half of the audience and it appears to have a life of its own. She loved the LOVE show and especially loved that Paul was in attendance even though she couldn't see him from her seat during the show.

The Mirage Hotel currently has on display special LOVE exhibits to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the LOVE show which can be seen walking through the lobby. Go to their website for more information about the special 5th anniversary celebration and special offers.

Man who brought the Beatles to America in NYC on Sunday
[Posted by Adam Forrest on Wednesday, 06/01/11 5:59 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

This Sunday, Rockography will be honoring Sid Bernstein, the man responsible for bringing the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to America. Sid will be in person to meet and greet with fans at the Rockography Sunday Beatles Brunch. Signed posters will also be given away throughout the day.

A legendary American music producer and promoter, Sid Bernstein changed the American music scene in the 1960s and started the British Invasion by bringing The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, The Moody Blues, The Kinks and, most notably, The Beatles, to America. He was the first impresario to organize a rock concert at Carnegie Hall (with the first US performance by the Beatles) as well as the first to organize concerts at sports stadiums including Shea Stadium and Madison Square Garden.

Rockography is located at 504 6th Avenue in New York City. The Sunday Beatles Brunch takes place on Sunday, June 5th, from 12pm to 5pm. For reservations and more info, call (646) 360-4143.

In addition, my blog page now includes my Top 20 list of favorite solo-Beatle love songs, as heard on a recent episode of Fab Fourum, my all-talk podcast with co-hosts Mitch Axelrod, Rob Leonard and Tony Traguardo. Liverpool's Beatles Story Comes Together for Beatles Night in San Francisco
[Posted by Katie Hickox on Friday, 04/29/11 5:33 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]

Beatles Story Director Jerry Goldman and General Manager Clare Ireland were on hand last night to meet and greet Beatles fans at last night's Beatles and Beetles Nightlife event at the San Francisco California Academy of Science.

Fans enjoyed a night of live Beatles music played by the Beatles tribute band "The Sun Kings," along with an opportunity to see not only unpublished and unseen photos of the Beatles, but also to see displays of live marine mammals, birds, insects all while listening to hits from the sixties played by a DJ.

Beatles Story Director Jerry Goldman with the live penguins

Beatles Story brought from Liverpool over 40 fabulous unseen large framed black and white photographs of the Beatles that were taken by photographer Paul Beriff in 1963 and 1964. These photographs had never been seen by the public until Paul Beriff rediscovered them in his attic and decided to finally publish them in 2010. Each framed photograph was at least 4' by 4' and some were as large as 6' by 6'. Last night's event was the first time these stunning photographs were seen in North America.

When asked what photograph was his favorite, Jerry Goldman replied that the photograph of Paul McCartney doing Twist and Shout was his favorite.

If you'd like to see these photographs in San Francisco, many of them will be on display for a month at the San Francisco Art Exchange starting May 7th. Go to www.sfae.com for more information. Goldman says after their debut in San Francisco, they will be going to Memphis, Tennessee, to be displayed at the Rock and Soul museum later this summer.
