|Rumor: McCartney to reclaim Wings songs rights from EMI|
[Posted by Dave Haber on Tuesday, 03/16/10 11:06 pm] [Permalink] [Tweet] [Facebook]
According to Bloomberg, and as of yet reprinted nowhere else, Paul McCartney is poised to take back the rights to his songs and those of his band Wings from the music company EMI. The Mail on Sunday newspaper in the UK reported this last Sunday, without saying where it got the information.
The report in the Daily Mail added that while Paul would regain rights to his later work, EMI would retain the rights to the back catalogue of The Beatles.
So far, we can find no other substantiation of this report, although it is undoubtedly related to EMI's current financial turmoil, as we've been reporting over the last several days. Stay tuned to Beatles News, we will post it as more becomes available on this story.

NBC spots now running during the Olympics to promote the return of Jay Leno to the Tonight Show feature the Beatles song Get Back. In one of the spots, Jay Leno is driving down California's Pacific Coast Highway while Get Back plays in the background.
The version of the song in the promos is not performed by the Beatles, but the guy singing does sound a bit like Paul McCartney.
Jay Leno's return to the 11:35 time slot is scheduled for a week from Monday, March 1.

A multi-estate sale was held last weekend, January 22 through 24 by Philip Weiss Auctions.
At the sale, a page from the 1964 Beatles USA, Ltd. tour program, beautifully signed by all four Beatles and personally inscribed to the late pianist Liberace, soared to $15,800. In their light-hearted way, the Beatles signed the 12 inch by 12 inch page "to Liber-Archie" as a play on words. The photo on the page depicts the band wearing their winter coats, standing atop a wall.
Among other items at the sale, the original marriage certificate of Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley dated May 26, 1994, sold for $70,800.
The weekend extravaganza, at which around 1,300 lots changed hands from a variety of categories in a sale that grossed more than $700,000, was held in Philip Weiss Auctions' gallery facility located in Oceanside, New York.
