Review: John Lennon's Imagine Ultimate Collection

Originally a 10-track, 40-minute album, John Lennon's chart-topping Imagine has been expanded for this release to include...well, more than you could have possibly imagined. Four CDs deliver 61 tracks and upwards of four-and-a-half hours of playing time. The set also includes two Blu-ray discs with 88 additional selections.

John Lennon's Imagine gets new life at Grammy Museum event

Expansive new mixes, and newly unearthed demos and alternates of John Lennon's chart-topping 1971 album "Imagine" were publicly unveiled at L.A.'s Grammy Museum on Wednesday night. Remix engineer Paul Hicks, director Andrew Solt, drummer Jim Keltner, and Lennon friend and confidant Elliot Mintz appeared at the event.

Video: Unseen footage of John Lennon recording How Do You Sleep

Never-before-seen footage of John Lennon and George Harrison recording 'How Do You Sleep' has been released. The footage is part of "Imagine: The Ultimate Collection" reissue, which is due to be released by Universal Music on October 5 and features on a "Raw Studio Mixes" disk which promises recordings with no reverb or echo.

Watch John Lennon and George Harrison in newly surfaced video

John Lennon and George Harrison appear together in a newly surfaced video. In the previously unseen footage they are recording "How Do You Sleep" for the Imagine album. Lennon plays guitar in the footage from Ascot Sound Studios, Harrison can be seen playing slide guitar alongside Nicky Hopkins, Alan White and Klaus Voormann.

Compare new John Lennon imagine ultimate mixes to original LP

The upcoming John Lennon Imagine box set features what's being called the "Ultimate Mixes." Now on the internet, you can view two videos that allow listeners to compare parts of the original 1971 mix with the new 2018 versions. Arriving on Oct. 5, Imagine: The Ultimate Collection contains 140 tracks including outtakes.

John Lennon Imagine demo strips down a simple message

An early demo of Imagine will highlight the new six-disk box set Imagine The Ultimate Collection. The version is not that different from the final release. The final mix only featured Lennon at the microphone and on a piano, backed by Klaus Voormann on bass and Alan White on drums. But we don't miss them in this version.

Previously unreleased version of Jealous Guy now on internet

On October 5, Geffen/UMe will release a six-disc boxed set, Imagine - The Ultimate Collection, remixed and remastered 140 tracks fully authorized by Yoko Ono. Now on the internet is a portion of "Jealous Guy (Elements Mix)" from the box set, a piano, bass, and drums mix featuring Nicky Hopkins' haunting piano track.

Audio: John Lennon's stripped-back Imagine demo from upcoming box set

John Lennon's studio version of Imagine featured bass, drums and a string arrangement, co-produced with Phil Spector. A more spartan demo of the song featuring simply his voice and piano will make its debut on Imagine: the Ultimate Collection, an upcoming box-set anthology of Lennon's celebrated album, due out October 5th.

Update: John Lennon Imagine Ultimate Box Set

John Lennon's acclaimed 1971 album Imagine is being celebrated this autumn with a series of releases, pegged to coincide with what would have been his 78th birthday. According to Lennon's social media, the new releases promise listeners will be able to explore and enjoy the Imagine album and sessions like you've never heard them before.
