Argument over Lennon bike authenticity Warning: Page opens with sound

A 1969 Honda Z50A Monkey originally owned by John Lennon sold at auction for over 50,000 this week. However, another Monkey, also wearing the front number plate XUC91H, was sold at an entertainment memorabilia auction a decade ago. That machine's previous owner claimed to have been given the bike by Ringo Starr.

John Lennon's Monkey Bike motorcycle sells for record-breaking price

A motorcycle once owned by John Lennon has fetched a record-breaking 57,500 (about $79,500) at auction. The 1969 Honda Z50A Monkey Bike sold for almost double the estimated 30,000 (about $41,500). Lennon used the bike to get around his Tittenhurst Park estate in Berkshire, where he lived from 1969 to 1971.

John Lennon's Honda Monkey to be auctioned

John Lennon used to have a Honda Monkey bike as well as a Mercedes 600 Pullman and a psychedelic Rolls-Royce. He bought the bike new in 1969, and used it to ride around the premises of his country house near Ascot, England. The bike is estimated to sell for $28,000 to $55,800 when it goes up for auction on March 4.
