How Geoff Emerick helped the Beatles reinvent music

Geoff Emerick was just 19 when he became the Beatles' engineer, bringing his own brash approach to the experimentation the band was beginning to try in the studio. The immediate result: Revolver, the 1966 masterpiece that forever changed pop music. "A lot of that was down to Geoff Emerick," producer George Martin said in 2007.

Beatles world pays tribute to Geoff Emerick

Tributes are pouring in for Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick who passed away yesterday. Paul McCartney called him a genius on his Facebook page. Giles Martin said he was "one of the finest and most innovative engineers to have graced a recording studio." Yoko Ono wrote, "Not only was he the best engineer, he was very very kind."

Geoff Emerick, legendary Beatles recording engineer, dies at 72

Geoff Emerick, the long-standing Abbey Road studio engineer whose inventive recording techniques helped The Beatles make vast artistic leaps in the mid-60s, has died. The news comes from his personal social media accounts, with his manager sharing information that Emerick suffered a heart attack today at the age of 72.
