Liverpool Cavern City Tours getting ready for Beatles Week
by Katie Hickox
Liverpool is the site of one of the largest international Beatles festival with over 3,000 fans attending this week. Cavern City Tours is the organization which puts on this great celebration of Beatles music and activities over a 7 day period starting tomorrow, August 26th.
Cavern City Tours began producing the Liverpool International Beatles Convention in 1985 and expanded it from a one day to a two day event. Within a few years they expanded it again to three days, then four days in the nineties and finally now to seven days. This year, 2009, will be the 29th anniversary of Liverpool Beatles Convention, the biggest Beatles Convention in the world.
Cavern City Tours also helps oversee the highly acclaimed Liverpool city wide 2 day Mathew Street Festival which they originally started over 15 years ago which runs concurrently with Beatles week starting Sunday August 30th. The Mathew Street Festival is a "free two day event, with over 80 hours of live outdoor music, celebrates cover and original bands which attracts local people and guests from all over Europe....it takes place in Liverpool City Centre on six outdoor stages showcase live music from 11am until 6pm. Over 95 bands perform from as far as USA, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, France, Italy, Finland, Poland, Turkey and Scotland."
Over 80 different Beatles tribute bands come from all over the world to showcase their talent nearly 24 hours a day in pubs, clubs, theaters, and even a ferry across the Mersey River before fans many of whom also have traveled thousands of miles away. See www.cavernclub.org/listings.php for a listing of all the bands, show times and venues.
This year's Liverpool International Beatles week will feature a special display lounge at the Adelphi Hotel by Apple Records showing the new Beatles Rock Band and also the new Beatles Remasters, both the solo and stereo versions, and the new Box of Vision.
Here is a picture of Cavern City Tours' Manager Ian McDermott holding up the brand new "Box of Vision" not yet released by Apple Records. You can see that the new "Box of Vision" comes in a large white box embossed with just "The Beatles" in black lettering and there is a large binder containing all of The Beatles UK and US album artwork together for the first time, a storage book for organizing and displaying your collection of Beatles CDs and a new Catalography guide to The Beatles catalog of albums.
